Big scandal in Egypt: hotels massively refuse returnee tourists

Four “famous hotels” in the resort of Marsa Alam risk being closed for three months due to refusal to support tourists – “defectors”, mainly from Ukraine. Such a measure of influence was announced by the Inspection Committee under the Ministry of Tourism, justifying this by the fact that such an act negatively affects the image of Egypt's hospitality.

According to the Egyptian media, a major scandal erupted at the resort, which the members of the above-mentioned committee had to deal with. The essence of the scandal is that the owners of hotels in the farthest southern resort of the Red Sea refused to accept stranded Ukrainian tourists according to the “order” of the ministry. As a result, the committee of inspectors and officials of the Ministry of Tourism, in agreement with the tourist police, began the evacuation and transfer of Ukrainian tourists from “four well-known hotels in Marsa Alam” to other hotels. At the same time, the Egyptian side assures that the hotels provided will be “of the same level”.

It should be noted that the “evacuation” had to be carried out seriously – according to the Egyptian media, at least 700 tourists of “different nationalities” were moved to alternative hotels – it is specified that Russian tourists were also among them, who were also stuck in Egypt, but mostly tourists from Ukraine.

Commenting on this situation, officials from the Ministry of Tourism of Yegpit emphasized that according to the order of the department, three-star hotels should accept stranded tourists on preferential terms, providing them with three meals a day and light drinks a day. The costs are covered by the Egyptian Tourism Fund “under a floor price mechanism” of $10 per person per night, “with an emphasis on not charging the guest any additional amounts for staying at the hotel.” If tourists want to continue their vacation in a 4-5 * hotel, they can do this “by providing them with a preferential price or a price that does not exceed the price at which tourists booked the tour” – for a free vacation, tourists will have to move to 3 *.< /p>

What exactly is the cause of the scandal for 700 people – the publication does not specify. However, he notes that hoteliers who “evicted” tourists are threatened with a suspension of activities for a period of 3 months, “since the Ministry of Tourism regarded the refusal as an insult to the country's tourist reputation.” Hotels, in turn, filed a petition with the Ministry of Tourism to cancel and terminate the decision. We also note separately that Egypt prudently brought defector tourists away from the main tourist centers of Hurghada, to the most secluded resort on the Red Sea.
