On the basis of Big Data MTS PJSC analyzed where Russians spent May holidays and determined points of attraction for Russian tourists. Among foreign destinations, the tourist flow to Turkey and Thailand grew the most, and among the regions of the Russian Federation – to Dagestan and the Tomsk region.

Big Data MTS analyzed tourist flows from April 30 to May 10, 2022, comparing the data with the same period last year. The growth of the tourist flow for the May holidays was provided by trips abroad, while the number of trips within Russia remained practically unchanged.

Traveling abroad

The total number of tourists who went abroad for the May holidays increased by a quarter compared to last year. The most popular destinations were Belarus, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Abkhazia and the United Arab Emirates. The number of tourists has multiplied in Turkey (nine times), Thailand (4.5 times), Tajikistan (three times), Uzbekistan and Israel (2.5 times) and Georgia (two times).

Traveling in Russia

The total number of travelers in Russia remained at the level of 2021. The top five most popular regions included Moscow, Vladimir, Tver, Tula and Krasnodar.

Restrictions related to travel abroad have led to the formation of new “points of attraction” in Russia – regions where tourism has increased significantly over the year. flow. The most notable growth was in the Republic of Dagestan: the number of guests in the region increased by 34% compared to the same period in 2021. The number of tourists to the Tomsk region (+30%), Yakutia (+29%), Krasnoyarsk region (+24%) and Smolensk region (+20%) also increased.

The number of tourists in Kaliningrad region decreased (-21 %), Bryansk (-18%), Belgorod regions (-14%), Komi Republic (-11%), Sverdlovsk region (-10%) and Trans-Baikal region (-10%).
