Turkey and Russia share the first place in terms of sales of tours to Russians for holidays during the May holidays.
The ATOR Analytical Service analyzed the statistics of sales of tours for the May holidays – from April 29 to May 8 – for 2021 and 2022 according to 17 ATOR member tour operators, 6 of which are diversified market players. The data of sales of tours held on April 22 were analyzed.
So, in 2022, the total sales of tours for the May holidays increased by an average of 26%. It is clarified that the increase is provided by the “low base effect” for outbound tourism. For example, in April 2021, tours to Turkey were not sold and there were no charters to Egypt.
In 2022, these destinations are open, so the losses due to the closure of the Caribbean countries do not cover Turkey and Egypt in volume. The closure of European countries does not affect the comparative statistics for the current and previous years, since both in May 2021 and in May 2022 Europe is closed for travel. Losses in the Caribbean and Asian destinations are offset by an increase in demand for tours to Abkhazia.
The increase in sales is also associated with an increase in demand for tours in Russia. Sales of trips in the Russian Federation increased by an average of 17-25%, sales of river cruises (according to the company “Vodokhod”) – by 30%.
The first place in terms of sales of tours for the May holidays was shared by Russia and Turkey ( the share is about 35-38% for each country).
Speaking about Russia, in 2022, half of all bookings are for the resorts of the Krasnodar Territory. The leaders are Sochi. Next come the Caucasian Mineralnye Vody, St. Petersburg, the Moscow region and Tatarstan. Crimea was not included in the TOP-5 destinations due to the closed airport in Simferopol.
Turkey leads in terms of sales for the May holidays of this year among tour operators such as Coral Travel, ANEX Tour, PEGAS Touristik, FUN&SUN, ” Intourist”, accounting for 35 to 62% of all sales. The resorts of Antalya and Belek are of the main interest.
In addition to Turkey, the UAE, Abkhazia, Egypt are in the TOP-5 of the most popular foreign destinations. In fifth place are the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Seychelles, Bali, Malaysia.
