The Russian Ministry of Transport will consider the issue of increasing the number of Turkish Airlines flights to Russia after the Turkish authorities, in turn will approve additional flights of Russian carriers to Turkish resorts. This is how they commented on the position of the department in Izvestia.
“The current agreement on air communication between Russia and Turkey provides for parity in the number of international flights operated by the countries' airlines. Today, Turkish airlines are allowed to operate 290 flights to Russia per week. Russian carriers have been issued permits for only 122 flights a week,” said a spokesman for the Ministry of Transport. He stressed that as soon as the Turkish side fully approves the applications for operating flights of Russian carriers to Turkey, the Russian aviation authorities will be ready to return to consideration of the issue of extending permits and increasing the frequency for Turkish airlines, he specified.
Recall that Turkish Airlines at the end of April asked the Russian Ministry of Transport for permission to operate additional flights between Turkey and Russian cities. The agency agreed to increase the airline's flight program from Moscow by only 30%: out of the requested additional 349 frequencies per week, just over 100 were approved. As a result, the Turkish national carrier and its Pegasus low-cost carrier can operate 108 flights per week to the Russian Federation and carry about 100 thousand people on them per month.
At the same time, according to the estimates of the Russian tourist market, the problem of shortage of transportation to Turkey in the summer season will have to be solved in the near future – otherwise a large number of Russian tourists will be left without an already paid vacation.
