Germany refuses French fries due to shortage of sunflower oil

In Germany – shortage of sunflower oil, which was supplied from Ukraine, according to WDR. French fries were abandoned at the large beer garden Gaffel am Dom in Cologne. According to the managing director of the restaurant, Erwin Ott, one hundred liters of oil is needed per week for frying potato pancakes, schnitzels and fries. So far, only ten liters are delivered to the restaurant. The owners of Gaffel am Dom have decided to remove French fries from the menu, while other dishes remain. Jörg Lilienbecker, who runs a diner in Sendenhorst that sells only fries and sausages, says finding butter has become difficult. Every morning you have to look at the offers of different dealers and go to Münster and Hamm for oil. Christian Kirchner, the owner of a chips shop in Cologne, agrees with him – spending was 50 percent higher. The British may be left without their favorite fish and chips. A dish considered an unspoken British specialty could rise in price or even disappear from the shelves due to sanctions and subsequent supply problems.
