The main hotel booking site paid Russia an astronomical fine

The largest hotel aggregator Booking.com, which left Russia, still paid the fine imposed on it by Russian antimonopolists. On its official website, the FAS reported that Booking had paid a fine of 1.3 billion rubles.

Recall that the case was initiated on the basis of an appeal from the public organization of small and medium-sized businesses Opora Rossii back in 2019, and was completed in December 2020. As a result, in August 2021, the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of the Russian Federation imposed a fine of 1.3 billion rubles on him for “abuse of a dominant position in the market of hotel aggregators.”

Such channels include meta-search engines, travel agencies, other information aggregators, as well as the websites of the hotels themselves and other accommodation facilities.”

As reported, another trial took place in November 2021 – it confirmed the amount of the fine. As a result, at the moment, in April 2022, the company reported on the payment of 1.3 billion rubles. “The funds have already been received by the budget of the Russian Federation,” the FAS added.
