In the next summer season, Italy will receive an increase of 35%, but the total number of tourists will still be less than in the “pre-Covid” times by about a third. At the same time, the distribution of tourists by region will change, including due to the absence of Russians.
Thus, as estimated by the research center of the Institute of Tourism Demoskopika, this season Italy can expect more than 92 million tourists. The growth compared to last year will be 35%. However, these figures will still remain below the pre-pandemic time: compared to 2019, the number of tourists arriving in Italy this year will be 29.6% less. It should be noted that Italy is present in the pan-European preferences, but it did not make it to the front rows.
At the same time, the distribution of tourists by region will also change. The Piedmont region is expected to receive the largest number of tourists – 4.3 million. Trentino-South Tyrol will be in second place and Campania in third. The “European” regions, which are easy to reach for tourists from the EU countries, or those that are popular with them, will win mainly. At the same time, the regions where Russians preferred to spend their holidays will “go into the shadows.”
Revenues and expenses will also grow, but not that impressively. By the end of 2022, Italy is expected to earn more than 26 billion euros from tourism. This means an increase of 11.8% compared to 2021.
