Bobby Laurie, a former flight attendant and host of the American show The Jet Set, shared his personal experience of how you can transfer to first class or business class on an airplane for free. Such opportunities open up infrequently, so attentiveness and knowledge of some subtleties play a big role.
Sometimes, for one reason or another, more tickets are sold for one flight than there are seats on the plane. In this case, airline representatives ask one of the passengers to voluntarily leave a couple of hours later, and in exchange, the tourist may well agree on an upgrade and a comfortable seat in business class.
“If you voluntarily agree to go on your next flight, you can arrange to be seated in first class. I did this when I flew from Phoenix to San Diego. I ended up flying out two hours later, getting an upgrade and a lounge pass to eat and pass the time,” said Bobby Laurie.
