The Government of the Russian Federation has provided an opportunity for tour operators to fulfill their obligations on tours canceled due to the coronavirus until the end of 2022.
This measure applies to tours that were purchased by tourists before March 31, 2020. “The decision concerns only tours to those countries that were closed last year for travel for tourism purposes or there were significant restrictions on them, which means that the tour operator could not provide the envisaged equivalent tourism product in accordance with the decision. In these countries, by the end of this year, tour operators must offer tourists a similar tourist product, or return the money “, the press service of Rostourism reported.
The decision taken by the Government does not apply to those countries for which it was possible fulfill obligations by the end of 2021. For tours to these states, tour operators must fulfill their obligations now, if this was not done before the end of last year.
It is recalled that a similar measure was in effect in the period 2020-2021. This allowed the travel industry to fulfill almost 90% of existing obligations, and more than 1.1 million tourists to receive paid services or return money. At the moment, the amount of the remaining debt is less than 5 billion rubles.
