A letter to the government with a request to increase the number of flights of Turkish carriers to Russia will be sent by the relevant State Duma Committee on Tourism and Tourism Infrastructure Development. Ideally, the number of allowed flights should be tripled in order to carry all the tourists who want to. At least, the Turkish side presents just such figures.
According to the chairman of the committee, Sagandzhi Tarbaev, we are talking about the approval by the Ministry of Transport of charter flights of Turkish airlines to Russia “in the context of the introduction of restrictions and prohibitions by unfriendly countries.” He noted that this decision was made following a discussion with the Federal Tourism Agency on the issue of expanding the transportation of Russian tourists to Turkey by Turkish airlines, Interfax reports.
First of all, we are talking about the Turkish national carrier Turkish Airlines. “To date, the Federal Air Transport Agency has approved 108 flights per week, which will allow transporting about 100,000 people, but this is not enough,” he said.
In turn, according to Rostourism, the expansion of flight programs is necessary in order not to bring down the Russian tourist industry. “At the moment, tour operators cannot fulfill their obligations to tourists on already paid tours, primarily due to the termination of air traffic with most popular foreign tourist destinations after February 24 due to EU and US sanctions. The resulting debt reaches 40 billion rubles, and it is possible to start paying it to tourists only if at least several mass destinations are opened, ”Zarina Doguzova, head of Rostourism, told Interfax,
She added that the position of the department on this issue is unequivocal: “all friendly countries that have not imposed sanctions against the Russian Federation, which are ready to ensure security and receive our tourists,” should receive a Russian tourist. “We are working closely with them on any possibilities so that air communication is possible,” she said. So far, according to Ms. Doguzova, the total number of flights for the May holidays amounted to 290 per week – some of them will fly until May 15 with a possible extension. “This has allowed tour operators to gradually fulfill their obligations to tourists,” she added.
The Turkish side, in turn, cites the assessment of Sangadzhi Tarbaev, who states that the 108 flights of Turkish carriers agreed by the Federal Air Transport Agency per week will allow transporting about 100,000 people, but this is not enough. At least 349 flight permits are needed, which Turkish Airlines requested. According to the Turkish press, this proposal was also supported by the Federal Tourism Agency.
