An open letter to the management of the hotel chain RIU Hotels & Resorts, which was closed for Russian tourists, was presented by six domestic tour operators. In the letter, they stated that this approach “violates the principles of equality and respect for human dignity on a national basis” and is “racial discrimination.”
Recall that the RIU network sent warning letters to Russian tour operators, in which it said that Since April 13, cooperation with the Russian market has been terminated and Russian tourists will not be accepted (details here). Corresponding letters were received by about ten Russian tour operators. At the same time, there are no statements about this on the official website of the network, but it is impossible to access it from Russia without a VPN.
According to tour operators, this news will not undermine the market, there are alternatives, however, the hotels of the chain occupied a leading position in the preferences of Russian tourists in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, the hotels of the chain in the Maldives, the United Arab Emirates and Sri Lanka were in demand.
As a result, according to ATOR, eight tour operators – namely PAX, Maldives Bonus, ICS Travel Group, Maldiviana, Pantheon, Art-Tour, Sletat.ru, OSA-travel – compiled a collective letter and sent it to the management of RIU Hotels & Resorts

For some time now, the Russian tourism market has received disturbing news about the suspension of the RIU Hotels brand in the Russian market and the reception of Russian tourists at some resorts of the brand .
We consider this step unacceptable in the modern world. Such actions violate the principles of equality and respect for human dignity based on nationality and violate the rights of many international conventions and laws, such as the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the United Nations Declaration on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination ”, and also testifies to double standards.
We would like to remind you that tourism and hospitality are designed to strengthen international relations and cooperation, stand outside politics and exclude any racial prejudice. The relationship between the brand and the Russian market has been successfully developing over the years, hundreds of thousands of tourists have visited the RIU resorts and such steps can be irreversible, as well as adversely affect the reputation of the brand itself.
Before forming your final position, we urge you make a well-considered decision that will not harm cooperation, the industry and will not lead to a crisis in relations between the brand and the Russian market.”
