Turkey has received the yacht of another Russian oligarch

Turkey took over the yacht of another Russian oligarch

Last Saturday, the Turkish “ark” was briefly replenished with another luxury yacht of the Russian oligarch, who is under sanctions. The ship was allowed to dock off Turkey's southwestern coast, Reuters reported. This is the 73-meter Clio yacht, owned by Russian aluminum tycoon Oleg Deripaska.

Clio arrived in Turkish waters and anchored off the coast of Gocek in the Aegean coastal province of Muğla. However, the $65 million yacht did not stay in Turkish waters, but set off across the Mediterranean towards Egypt. The ship stopped about 50 kilometers off the Egyptian coast and then headed for Greece, according to tracking website MarineTraffic.

Turkey partially supported Ukraine after the start of the Russian special operation, but flatly refused to follow the West in imposing any sanctions against Russia or businessmen. Last month, the republic allowed Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich to moor two superyachts Eclipse and Solaris worth at least $1.3 billion in its ports. Eclipse then stopped at the Mediterranean resort of Marmaris, and Solaris at Bodrum. One of them, under increasing pressure, soon left the port of the resort (details here). On the other hand, the Turkish side was quick to note that other Russian oligarchs, tourists and investors would also be welcome in the country.

Oleg Deripaska, once known as Russia's richest man, was sanctioned by the Ministry in 2018 US Treasury along with six other oligarchs. Deripaska was also included in the sanctions list of the European Union and Great Britain after the start of Russia's special operation in Ukraine.
